Importance of Health Education among Children in the Aspect of Keeping Cleanliness to Prevent COVID-19

Health education is the development of individuals, groups, institutions, communities and systematic strategies to improve health. With health education, it can protect or prevent from diseases whether non -communicable or infectious diseases. Personal hygiene is often associated with health. The importance of personal hygiene to ensure that the level of health is in good condition. Health education among children is very important to be inculcated in them in order to prevent infectious diseases or pandemics that are plaguing our country and the world, namely Covid-19. In the National Preschool Standard Curriculum (KSPK), it emphasizes the importance of health care in terms of physical development and health care in the Pillars of Physical Development and Aesthetics. Children need to be exposed to knowledge about the spread of Covid-19 and early preventive measures against Covid-19 through the implementation of teaching and learning by teachers to impart knowledge to them in the aspect of maintaining hygiene. This article aims to clarify the need in imparting knowledge to children about the spread of Covid-19, early preventive measures against Covid-19 and the teaching and learning activities of teachers in health education to provide exposure to children in maintaining hygiene. Accordingly, a review of the literature indicates that children’s knowledge of the mode of transmission and early preventive measures against Covid-19 is very limited. However, with appropriate and interesting teaching and learning methods of teachers, then it can help children to understand and acquire such knowledge. In conclusion, with the use of appropriate and interesting teaching and learning methods, then it can produce effective learning outcomes.
