Abstract

Penyesuaian semasa berlakunya transisi institusi merupakan satu proses unik yang menunjukkan keselesaan dan penerimaan terhadap perubahan yang dialami. Kajian berbentuk kuantitatif ini dilakukan bertujuan mengkaji aspek penyesuaian dalam kalangan pelajar Program Persediaan Ijazah Sarjana Muda Perguruan (PPISMP) major pendidikan matematik di Institut Pendidikan Guru Malaysia (IPGM) dan seterusnya membina model pencapaian matematik. Teori transisi Schlossberg menjadi asas kepada kajian yang dilakukan. Instrumen kajian diadaptasi dan diubahsuai daripada Student Adaptation to College Questionnaire (SACQ) dan Orientasi Pembelajaran Matematik (OPM). Empat komponen penyesuaian (akademik, sosial, peribadi-emosi dan komitmen institusi) dan tiga komponen OPM (tabiat belajar, sikap pelajar dan kebimbangan matematik) menjadi tumpuan utama dalam kajian ini. Analisis data dilakukan secara deskriptif dan menggunakan pendekatan Model Persamaan Berstruktur Kuasa dua Terkecil Separa (MPB-KTS). Dapatan kajian menunjukkan, secara keseluruhannya penyesuaian pelajar berada pada tahap sederhana. Selepas satu semester, kajian juga menunjukkan bahawa pencapaian matematik pelajar turut dipengaruhi oleh tahap penyesuaian pelajar. Kajian dilakukan berjaya membina dan menilai model pencapaian matematik berasaskan MPBKTS yang memperlihatkan hubung kait secara secara signifikan antara penyesuaian, OPM dan pencapaian matematik. Jelas menunjukkan bahawa, selain daripada aspek kognitif pelajar, aspek penyesuaian dan OPM juga berhubung kait dengan pencapaian matematik.

Adaptation during the instution transition period was a unique process that display comfortable and acceptence of the changes encountered. The purpose of this quantitative research was to investigate the adaption aspect among Bachelor Degree Preparatory Program (BDPP) students majoring in mathematics education in Malaysia Teacher's Education Institute and consequently to develop a mathematics' achievement model. The research instrument was adapted and modified from Student Adaptation to College Questionnaire (SACQ) and Mathematics Learning Orientation (MLO). The four components of adaptation (academic, social, self-emotional and institutional commitment) and three MLO components (study habit, student's attitude and mathematics anxiety) were the main focus of this study. The data were analyzed descriptively and Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Model (PLS-SEM) approach was utilized. The research finding showed that overall the student's adaptations were at moderate level. Furthermore, the finding also demonstrated that mathematics achievement was influenced by student's adaptation level. The research has successfully developed and evaluated mathematics achievement model based on PLS-SEM that showed significant relationships between adaptation, MLO and mathematics achievement. It was clearly shown that, beside student's cognitive aspects, adaptation aspects and MLO were also correlated to mathematics achievement.
