Abstract

This article discusses the results of a study to detect an alternative framework for matriculation students in the topic of chemical equilibrium based on the syllabus of Engineering Sciences. A test for the alternative framework of students was conducted on 30 students of the second semester at a matriculation college. Two methods were used in this study, namely two-tier multiple choice questionnaire and also observations and surveys. A set of 13 item instrument used in this study is a two-tier multiple choice diagnostic questions that test understanding of concepts and explanatory questions for the first question. Students involved in this study were exposed to these topics in the first semester in which these students attended six hours of lectures related to this topic. In this study, several alternatives framework have been identified that involving concepts toward equilibrium, application of the principle of Le Chatelier, the equilibrium constant, equilibrium inheterogeneous systems, and the impact on the equilibrium catalyst. Some of the causes of the existence of an alternative framework also identified. The results showed that when the two are combined item level, available range of correct answers is between 6.67% to 56.67%.
