Abstract

This paper discusses Developmentally Appropriate Practices (DAP) of Pupils which are the mainstay of early childhood educators in preschools of the Ministry of Education Malaysia (MOE) as recommended in the National Preschool Standard Curriculum (2010; 2017). The main focus of this study is to explore, examine and understand in depth how the implementation of Developmentally Appropriate Practices (DAP) 0f Pupils is implemented through the process of preparation and teaching in MOE preschool classes. The design of this study is a qualitative study in the form of a case study. Study data were obtained through interview techniques, teaching observations, and document analysis. Interview transcripts were analyzed using Atlas.ti version 8 software to assist and update the data as well as emerging themes. The findings of the study show that early childhood educators in MOE preschool classes have a good understanding and implementation of ABP during the process of preparation and teaching, especially for 7 principles out of 12 principles in DAP. In conclusion, the results of this study show that early childhood educators in MOE preschools know the importance of Developmentally Appropriate Practices (DAP) of Pupils in preschool education and its impact on the development of children's potential as a whole.
