Abstract

Writing essay is considered as one of the important component in teaching and learning Malay Language. Students write essays using different kinds of format such as story, discussion and informal letters. The research samples were from Form 3 students from a secondary school in Selangor. In this research a total of 14 samples of only good essays were chosen to do the analysis using Pedagogy Hermeneutics method to analysis the application of cognition in essay writing. The result showed that students be able to retrieve and process information while writing essay and produce good essays with the level of excellent contents. This research also shows that student’s previous knowledge from long term memory helped to apply cognition and affection elements to produce good essays.
