Abstract

The close relationship of Chinese and Malay communities in Terengganu state are highlighted through cultural sharing, socializing and education. Socialization process that occurs between communities with a different faith through education at the same school revealed many aspects of religious teaching of others. Such disclosures gave more understanding and correct any misconceptions about others religious. The relationship between religion that occurred unplanned and spontaneous known as ‘dialogue of life’. The objective of this study aims to see the Chinese Muslim Converts experience in the state in engaging in a dialogue of life at the same school. Qualitative methodology with interviews of 20 Chinese Muslim community involved in activities organized by the Islamic Religious Council and Malay Custom (MAIDAM) Terengganu at Darul Hidayah Complex, Kuala Terengganu. The findings showed that having same education with Muslim friends at school exposed some elements of Islam among Chinese Muslim during pre conversion. This means that exposure to the culture, customs and religion of the different religious communities through educational program capable of fostering racial unity because such learning will express appreciation and accept differences in religion openly.
