Abstract

A study was carried out to identify the problems of practice, as well as to propose a career services standard for secondary schools. The data were gathered from 22 practitioners. This study utilized focus group discussions. Three focus group discussions were held involving 22 practitioners. The analysis process formed categories. It was found that there were variations and the differences in the way career services were delivered by the practitioners. It was reported that these happened because there was no clear guideline, no specific schedule, lack of competence, lack of resources to obtain the information, no continuous development courses to improve the practice, and lack of facilities. Therefore, the study had identified the needs to have standardization for career services in secondary schools. The career services standard suggested by the practitioners consists some components such as testing and evaluation, career programs, program’s evaluation, research, consultancy, career information, networking, career counseling, and promotions.
