Abstract

This survey aims to describe the level of emotional intelligence (EQ) amongst Malaysian youth. A population of 16, 668 youth who sat for the Malaysian Educators Selection Inventory (MEdSI) was chosen as respondent. Their responses towards the EQ components were analyzed descriptively using percentages, mean and standard deviations. Results showed that overall EQ of Malaysian youths was at a moderate level. The analysis of resilience and the relationship skills components, however at high-level while the respondents’ emotional awareness and emotional expression levels were moderate. Based on the findings, it is felt that more realistic actions in building and promoting EQ among youths need to be taken due to the fact that EQ plays important role personality and performance.
