Penggunaan aplikasi ‘TDProbCalt’ dalam kalangan pelajar Politeknik Tuanku Sultanah Bahiyah: Satu tinjauan

Use of ‘TDProbCalt’ application among Tuanku Sultanah Bahiyah Polytechnic students: A review

Abstract

Kajian ini dilakukan untuk meninjau aspek penggunaan dan maklumbalas pengguna (pelajar politeknik) terhadap aplikasi TDProbCalt yang telah dibangunkan. Masalah kekeliruan dalam menyelesaian pemasalahan matematik bagi topik Kebarangkalian menjadi punca pencapaian matematik kurang memberansangkan. Tinjauan yang telah dilakukan terhadap pelajar semester 3 dalam diploma kejuruteraan sesi Jun 2020 Politeknik Tuanku Sultanah Bahiyah, mendapati sebanyak 58% daripada 241 responden menyatakan bahawa mereka keliru dalam penggunaaan kaedah atau formula dalam topik Kebarangkalian. Punca utama yang dikenalpasti menjadi faktor pelajar sukar memahami topik ini adalah disebabkan oleh kesukaran pelajar untuk memahami situasi yang diberikan dalam soalan dan kaedah yang tepat untuk menyelesaikannya. Hal ini kerana soalan dalam topik ini diberikan dalam bentuk situasi yang perlu diterjemahkan ke dalam bentuk pecahan dan Gambarajah Pokok mengikut syarat-syarat tertentu yang telah ditetapkan. Oleh yang demikian, TDProbCalt telah direkabentuk bagi memudahkan pelajar meningkatkan kefahaman topik Kebarangkalian yang memfokuskan kepada konsep Gambarajah Pokok. Bagi meninjau aspek penggunaan serta maklumbalas penggunaan aplikasi ini, pelajar telah memberi respon melalui borang maklumbalas yang diberikan secara atas talian (google form).  Hasil maklumbalas, mendapati secara keseluruhannya aplikasi TDProbCalt ini memberi impak positif di mana secara purata setiap item soal selidik memberikan peratusan lebih dari 80% pelajar menerima baik penggunaan aplikasi ini. Justeru, aplikasi ini amat sesuai dijadikan salah satu bahan bantu mengajar (ABBM) yang boleh digunakan sebagai salah satu komponen dalam Flipped Classroom di mana pelajar boleh belajar secara kendiri melalui aplikasi ini. Secara tidak langsung, melalui aplikasi TDProbCalt ini juga, ia dapat membantu para pensyarah untuk menyampaikan isi kandungan topik dengan lebih efektif.

ABSTRACT

This study had been carried out to review aspects of use and feedback (polytechnic students) on the TDProbCalt application that has been developed. The problem of confusion in solving mathematical problems for the topic of Probability is the cause of poor mathematical achievement. A survey of semester 3 engineering diploma students in the June 2020 session at Tuanku Sultanah Bahiyah Polytechnic, found that 58% of the 241 respondents stated that they were confused about the use of methods or formulas in Probability. The main reason identified to be the factor of students’ difficulty in understanding this topic is caused by the difficulty of students in understanding the situation given in the question and the appropriate method to solve it. This is because the questions in this topic are given in the form of situations that need to be converted into the form of fractions and tree diagrams according to certain pre-determined conditions. Therefore, TDProbCalt has been designed to facilitate students to increase their understanding of the topic of Probability focusing on the concept of Tree Diagram. To review the aspects of use and feedback on the use of this application, students have responded through a questionnaire provided through online (google form). The results of the feedback, found that overall, the TDProbCalt application has a positive impact where on average each item of the questionnaire gives a percentage of more than 80% of students accept the good use of this application. Therefore, this application is very suitable as one of the teaching aids (ABBM) that can be used as one of the components in Flipped Classroom where students can learn independently through this application. Indirectly, through this TDProbCalt application as well, it can help lecturers to deliver topic content more effectively.
