Awareness of Rainwater Harvesting System among Tanjong Malim, Perak Community

Abstract

Rainwater harvesting is a process of collection, storing, and usage of rainwater for domestic outdoor usage. The aim of this study was to analyse awareness level of Tanjung Malim community on the Rainwater Harvesting System (RHS). This research is using survey method that focused on knowledge, attitude, behaviour of saving treated water and behavior of rainwater harvesting among community in Tanjong Malim which involving 500 respondents that randomly chosen. The analysis of study used are frequency and mean, while inference analysis used are Pearson correlation and multiple regression. The analysis results show that the aspects that were high are knowledge, attitude and behaviour of saving treated water, while the behavior of rainwater harvesting at a moderate level. However, there is a low and weak correlation between domain of awareness. The result of multiple regression analysis showed that the attitude give a highest impact on behavior compared with the knowledge. This shows that the knowledge and attitude of the community are high but the practice is still at unsatisfactory level. Therefore, among the measures to improve community practices of rainwater harvesting are intensifying the existing campaign and organizing cooperation initiatives with stakeholders in order to achieve sustainable Tanjung Malim
