Abstract

The aim of this article is to explain the development and related issues to geographical education, especially geography schools in Malaysia. Geographical education has developed since before independence in 1957. Starting with the influence and colonial-oriented education, especially during pre-independence period and the early period after independence, the geography curriculum in Malaysia has changed in line with current development and the country's needs. This development is closely linked to the socio-cultural context and its underlying philosophy. Changes have occurred in the status of the geography in national curriculum and the content. School geography has issues that somehow affect the quality of the curriculum, especially in its implementation.
