Abstract

This study analyzes the practice among parents in the Banjar ethnic group in educating children, to be obedient to the teachings of Islam. The study utilizes quantitative methods involving 160 respondents in secondary schools among the Banjar ethnic group in the Kerian District, Perak. The study found that parents of Banjar ethnic group are firm and steadfast in teaching, educating and advising their children in aspects of beliefs, laws and morals. The results show that 97% of respondents of the Banjar ethnic group teach their children prayers from childhood to puberty, 98% in still the faith correctly, 99% trained their children to respect and care for the elderly, 72% teach the Quran to its completion, 93% trained their children to fast since childhood and 89% trained their children to attire covering the aurat. Implications of the study to parents, children and society are also discussed.
