Abstract

This paper is a study of the development of sculpture in the historical and cultural environment of Malaysia. The development of 3-dimensional art design across a series of transitions has seen the country experience various political, religious and social transformations starting from prehistoric times, colonialism, and the post-independence era to the present day. This chain connects historical, phenomenal and cultural factors in the formation of sculptural art. The study of colonial culture and art in the Hindu-Buddhist, Western and Islam eras and its development is a historical chronology that brings innovation and new thinking to 3-dimensional design in traditional Malay’s art.
