Abstract

Artikel ini memperihalkan satu kajian untuk membangunkan perisian multimedia bagi kegunaan kanak-kanak disleksia. Kajian menunjukkan bahawa kanak-kanak yang menghidap disleksia bukan sahaja mempunyai masalah dalam bacaan, tulisan dan ejaan, tetapi juga matematik. Disebabkan masalah-masalah tersebut, kanak-kanak ini mempunyai motivasi yang rendah terhadap pembelajaran. Perisian kursus multimedia berkeupayaan untuk memotivasikan kanak-kanak disleksia, kerana multimedia mempunyai teknologi yang dapat menambat pelbagai modaliti deria kanak-kanak. Kajian ini bertujuan mengkaji dua aspek utama. Pertama, pembangunan perisian kursus multimedia (D-Matematika) yang mempunyai ciri-ciri yang dapat memotivasikan literasi matematik dalam kalangan kanak-kanak yang mengidap disleksia. Yang kedua ialah melakukan satu kajian kes menilai keberkesanan penggunaan perisian D-Matematika tersebut berbanding dengan kaedah konvensional. Pembangunan D-Matematika berasaskan model Kitar Hayat Holistik Disleksia (K2Hxia) dengan mengambil kira beberapa aspek seperti strategi Scaffolding, teori pembelajaran, teknik Pembelajaran Errorless, kaedah Mnemonics Visual Audio (Mnemonics VA), antara muka pengguna dan interaktiviti. Bagi mencapai objektif kajian yang kedua, kaedah pemerhatian etnografik digunakan bagi menilai keberkesanan penggunaan perisian kursus tersebut berdasarkan literasi motivasi pembelajar disleksia. Secara amnya, hasil kajian menunjukkan bahawa penggunaan perisian kursus D-Matematika dapat memotivasikan kanak-kanak disleksia dalam memperoleh literasi matematik berbanding dengan kaedah konvensional.

This article describes the development of a multimedia courseware called D-Matematika for aiding dyslexic children in increasing their mathematics literacy. Dyslexic children suffer learning difficulties not only in reading, writing and spelling but also in learning mathematics. Thus, they generally have a low level of motivation for learning. A multimedia courseware containing elements that can exploit the various modalities in their senses will motivate them towards learning. Therefore, the first objective of this research is to develop a multimedia courseware (D-Matematika) having characteristics that can motivate dyslexic children learning mathematics. The second objective is to evaluate the effectiveness of using D-Matematika courseware in motivating dyslexic children learning mathematics as compared to using the conventional method. The D-Matematika courseware was developed using Holistic Life Cycle Model (Model Kitar Hayat Holistik Disleksia); acronymed K2Hxia. Based on this model, several aspects of learning such as Scaffolding Strategy, various learning theories, Errorless Learning Technique, Visual Audio Method (Mnemonics VA), interfacing and interactivity were incorporated in the courseware. Ethnographic Observational Method was used in evaluating the effectiveness of D-Matematika courseware in motivating the dyslexic children learning mathematics. Generally, it is found that this courseware is effective in aiding (helping) the dyslexic children learning mathematics as compared to conventional method.
