Isu dan trend penggunaan teknologi maklumat dan komunikasi dalam pendidikan awal kanak-kanak

The usage of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in education has been discussed in a myriad of research worldwide. Over time, ICT is widely used in all levels of education starting from early childhood to higher education. Numerous initiatives by the government have been executed to date, including allocating fund to support and maximize the usage of ICT specifically in education. Hence, this effort shall also be addressed by educators in early childhood education as an action to accomplish the aim. In this regard, educators should first be aware of the latest issues and trends in the use of ICT, to ensure the effectiveness of the incorporation in teaching and learning context particularly in early childhood education. In this concept paper, the issues and trends that have been outlined include the safety and health of the children, infrastructure, educators’ competencies, ICT as teaching aids, and ICT as a medium of communication and collaboration with parents. Suggestions for further research for ICT in early childhood education are also discussed in this paper.
Penggunaan Teknologi Maklumat dan Komunikasi atau Information, Communication and Technology (ICT) dalam pendidikan telah banyak dibicarakan dalam kajian-kajian di seluruh dunia. Seiring peredaran masa, penggunaan ICT digunakan begitu meluas dalam semua peringkat pendidikan. Bermula dari peringkat awal kanak-kanak hingga ke peringkat tinggi. Pihak kerajaan sendiri telah mengeluarkan peruntukkan yang besar agar budaya pengintegrasian ICT dalam dilestarikan dalam pendidikan. Oleh yang demikian, peringkat pendidikan awal kanak-kanak juga seharusnya menyambut usaha murni ini merealisasikan hasrat kerajaan ini. Sehubungan dengan itu, para pendidik terlebih dahulu seharusnya peka akan isu-isu dan trend-trend terkini penggunaan ICT dalam pendidikan awal kanak-kanak bagi memastikan pengendalian dan penggunaan ICT dalam konteks pengajaran dan pembelajaran awal kanak-kanak menjadi lebih berkesan. Isu dan trend yang dibincangkan dalam artikel ini ialah kesihatan dan keselamatan kanak-kanak, infrastruktur, kompentensi pendidik, penggunaan ICT sebagai alat bantu mengajar, medium komunikasi dan kolaborasi dengan ibu bapa. Di samping itu, artikel ini turut membincangkan kajian-kajian lanjutan yang difikirkan perlu untuk dilaksanakan bagi tujuan pembudayaan penggunaan ICT dalam pendidikan awal kanak-kanak.
