Abstract

The flash flood incident that occurred on August 21, 2021, had a significant impact on the residents of Kampung Setol, Yan, Kedah. This flood event was triggered by a sudden surge of water, resulting in serious consequences for the local economy. To address this issue, a study was conducted in Kampung Setol to assess the effects of the flood disaster on the residents and identify measures to mitigate its impact. Utilizing a quantitative approach, a survey was conducted among flood victims and local residents in Kampung Setol, Yan, Kedah. Data collected from this survey were analyzed using frequency and percentage. The analysis revealed that the flood disaster had a significant impact on the residents, particularly in terms of property damage and disruption of daily income. Therefore, effective disaster management is essential to reduce losses and protect the well-being of affected residents. This study will also serve as a valuable guide for the responsible authorities in disaster preparedness, enabling them to take measures to minimize damage and losses from future flood disasters. Furthermore, raising awareness and public education about disaster management and preparedness are crucial to building resilience and reducing vulnerability among the population to such events. This will ensure the safety and well-being of the community in the face of flood disasters.
