This study aims to understand the threateness brought by cyberbullying among female secondary school students in Penang. Qualitative methods via semi-structured interviews were used in this study. Adopting snowball sampling, seven female students who experienced cyberbullying were involved in this research. A thematic analysis method was used to analyze all the data and information obtained from the interview transcripts. Study data were analyzed and grouped according to themes to achieve the objectives of the study. There were six themes obtained from the threat aspect of cyberbullying, namely virtual incitement, sexual harassment and sexting, sexual grooming, account hacking, exclusion of individuals from a group, and the spread of news in the form of provocation. In terms of the effects of cyberbullying, this study showed that female students experienced low self-confidence, emotional disturbance, isolation, failure to express feelings, suicide, loss of interest and focus on lessons, and were at risk of becoming victims of spying and self-blame. The aspect of measures to overcome cyberbullying, the role of various parties such as peers, teachers, and the government is very important. In conclusion, the threateness of cyberbullying and the negative effects faced by victims of cyberbullying show that they really need help from various parties to ensure their personal and emotional harmony.
