The Effectiveness of Teaching and Learning Process in Pratical Cooking Lab at Secondary Daily Schools in Johor (48 - 60)

The effectiveness of teaching and learning (T&L) process in practical cooking lab at Secondary Daily Schools in Johor was studied in reference to four major factors which are equipments, safety, environment and teacher’s teaching. The objective of this study was to identify and evaluate the level and correlation of these factors in influencing the effectiveness of teaching and learning process in practical cooking lab. This study use a set of questionnaire and the respondents were 279 students chosen randomly from all of the students taking Home Economics subject as an elective subject in Secondary Daily Schools in Johor. The findings showed that there was a significant and moderate correlation between the factors of equipments (mean=4.11, r=0.38, p<0.01), safety (mean=4.12, r=0.46, p<0.01) and environment (mean=4.23, r=0.30, p<0.01) with the effectiveness of teaching and learning process in practical cooking lab. For the factor of teacher’s teaching, there was a significant and strong correlation (mean=4.27, r=0.52, p<0.01). Overall, the mean average of all the factors was high (mean=4.18), showing that all the factors in particular the teacher’s teaching, highly influence the effectiveness of teaching and learning process in practical cooking lab at Secondary Daily Schools in Johor. It is hoped that the findings obtained in this study can be a guidance and reference to further improve the effectiveness of teaching and learning process in cooking lab and other similar labs.
