Abstract

Lembaga Tabung Haji (LTH) is an institution commissioned by the government of Malaysia in the management of hajj affairs for the muslims in Malaysia. The excellent performance of the LTH has become the pride of muslims in Malaysia. However, the success of LTH was not handed down on a silver platter. Since its inception in 1969, LTH had gone through numerous challenges which tested the integrity of it as the only institution mandated by the government of Malaysia to manage the hajj pilgrimage from Malaysia to the holy land of Makkah. This study scrutinizes the various challenges faced by LTH since its commercement in 1969 until 1985, a year after the set up of the Muassasah and the efforts taken in solving them. Among the major challenges dealt with is the competition from private hajj operators and fraudulent practices by some unscrupulous hajj operators against the hajj pilgrims. Literature studies method will be used in this research, in particular The Annual Report of LTH.
