Abstract

The present research is to investigate the perception of the IPG and Matriculation lecturers regarding their engagement in action research course under the Continuing Profesional Development (CPD) program organised by Institut Pendidikan Guru Malaysia (IPGM). This paper reports the results of a survey of 65 lecturers from IPG (32) and Matriculation (33) about their perception of the 10 constructs involved in the study: The instrument used in this research was formulated by the researcher based on Brown D.S and Papanastasiou, E.C. The instrument has a high reliability level (0.95). The Statistical Program For Social Sciences (SPSS) 16 was used to analyse the data. Mean score and percentage were used to analyse the data obtained together with independent sample t-test. The findings revealed that the overall mean score for the 10 constructs were IPG (3.72 sd 0.42) and Matrikulasi (3.54 sd 0.38) were high. The mean score for each construct is as: perception towards the course (4.31 and 4.34) very high, relevance (4.51 and 4.34), gains from the course (4.56 and 4.37) very high, guidance from the facilitator (4.61 and 4.31) very high, importance (4.73 and 4.56) very high, constraints (3.38 and 3.01) high, action taken after the course (3.37 and 3.09) high, stress level (4.58 and 4.40) very high, change of attitude (4.58 and 4.38) very high, understanding of the action research concepts (4.47 and 4.27) very high. The independent sample t-test conducted revealed that there was not any significant difference between both the groups regarding their perception of the action research course. The high mean score indicated that the action research to the both groups towards the CPD course were very useful, important and relevant and much helped them to develop their personal as well as their profesional development.
