Abstract

The emergency that lasted for 12 years started in 1948 until 1960 was a bleak spot in the Malaysian history as for whole of Malaya at that time experienced the atrocities and virulence committed by the Communist Party of Malaya (CPM). The virulence of CPM seemed to happen regardless of time, space and place. Selangor was one of the Malay states affected by the insurgency let alone virulence committed by CPM. Their barbarity acts such as attacks on civilians and security forces, sabotage of public facilities and property, and disrupt the economy development plagued the state and consequently engendered woes not only to the public, but also to the government administration. This article accentuates the forges of atrocities of CPM towards economy activities in Selangor with reference to rubber plantations, coal and tin mining during the emergency period.
