Hymns of makatpaarkaanji in Puranaanooru- A Feministic Perspective

Abstract

புறநானூற்று மகட்பாற்காஞ்சிப் பாடல்கள் தோன்றிய காலகட்டத்தில் மகளிர், பெண் பிள்ளைகளின் நிலை என்ன எனக் காண்பது இக்கட்டுரையின் நோக்கம் ஆகும். பெண்ணியக் கோணத்தில் அமையும் இக்கட்டுரைக்கு மகட்பாற்காஞ்சித் துறை சார்ந்த இருபது புறப்பாடல்கள் முதல்நிலைத் தரவுகளாகவும் பிற தொகைநூற் பாடல்கள், ஆய்வாளர் கூற்றுகள் ஆகியன இரண்டாம்நிலைத் தரவுகளாகவும் அமைகின்றன. பண்டைத் தமிழ்ச் சமூகத்தில் பெண் பாதுகாப்புத் தொடர்பாக நிகழ்ந்த தவிர்க்க இயலாத சிக்கலின் வெளிப்பாடாக இப்பாடல்கள் தோன்றி உள்ளன எனத் தெரிகிறது. சமூக வரலாற்றில் இருந்து பிரிக்க இயலாத; பெண்களைப் பாதுகாக்க வேண்டிய நிலை தமிழக வரலாற்றை அறிய உதவுகிறது. 

The aim of this research article is to bring to the fore the status of women and girl children in the early Tamil society by studying the hymns of makatpaarkaanji in Puranaanooru.  A feministic approach is followed. Those twenty hymns of Puranaanooru which belong to the specific division makatpaarkaanji serve as the primary source. The other hymns of the anthologies and the statements of researchers serve as the secondary source. It’s brought out that the unavoidable pain and agony regarding the safety of girls during the early historical age was the reason for the creation of these hymns.  We could see the socialistic elements intermingled and inseparable; thereby the history of the early Tamils is revealed.
