Abstract

In field hockey, penalty shoot-outs are one of the ways used to determine which team advances to the next level or wins a match after a game end in a tie. The goal of this study was to see how often players used certain abilities and tactics when taking penalty shots. On five attempts, six (N = 6) young MSSM hockey players in the attacking position have made penalty shots. Kinovea software was used to examine thirty video clips. The findings of the study show that the sequence of frequency of skills that are often used by players is as follows; Indian Dribble; 1. High reverse pull (IDHR), 2. Forehand pull (IDFP), 3. Turning right-left (IDTR-L), 4. Lifting right (IDLR), 5. Spinning rightleft (IDSR-L); Dummy; 1. Dummy forehand pull (DFP), 2. Dummy high reverse pull (DHR), 3. Dummy long grip (DLG) and Dummy slapping (DSL), 4. Dummy short grip (DSG), Dummy high reverse (DHR), and Dummy orient push (DOP). Tactical analysis showed that 80% of the frequency of entering the “D” area was from the Strong side direction (KDSS) and 20% from the Wrong side direction (KDWS) with 66% using Zone A and 34% using Zone B. For scoring skill techniques, sequence on the overall average percentage is as follows; 1. Low reverse (LR), 2. Scoop (S), 3. Drag push (DP), Orient push (OP) and Long grip (LG), 4. Tap push (TP), 5. Slapping (SL), 6. The utilisation of hockey skills, methods, and tactics for penalty shots-out among young MSSM hockey players provide a very useful information. The attacking players may devise offensive methods, whereas the goalkeepers devise defensive strategies.
