It investigates the viability of cement-based composites as an alternative to clay in classrooms. The research involved 75 undergraduates and 33 VAE teachers and employed qualitative methods such as interviews, questionnaires, workshops, and field notes to gather and triangulate data. The study identified a significant gap, indicating a deficit in hands on experiences in pottery instruction at secondary education level. Thus, the Creinnomic Media Kit was designed and developed using the Addie Model to bridge this gap and to specifically enhance teachers’ content knowledge and instructional effectiveness in using cement-based composites. Framed within Ausubel’s Meaningful Learning Theory which emphasizes the importance of hands-on learning, the study demonstrated that cement-based composites are practical, versatile and cost effective for pottery instruction. Data analysis, including thematic, document, and content analysis, confirmed the practicality and effectiveness of cement-based composites in pottery instruction. Notably, the composites supported traditional pottery techniques such as casting, pinching, and slab construction, with finished products demonstrating durability and aesthetic qualities comparable to traditional clay pottery, without the need for firing and glazing This research contributes valuable insights into the potential of alternative materials to overcome resource constraints in VAE, promoting meaningful learning and creativity even when traditional materials are unavailable. This research provides essential insights for future advancements in VAE curricula, advocating for the integration of innovative teaching practices that utilize alternative materials to enrich the learning experience and foster student creativity.
Sailaja Ramachandran Nor Syazwani Mat Salleh Azlin Iryani Mohd Noor Copyright (c) 2024 Sailaja Ramachandran, Nor Syazwani Mat Salleh, Azlin Iryani Mohd Noor https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/4.0 2024-08-30 2024-08-30 12 2 10 22 10.37134/kupasseni.vol12.2.2.2024 Application of Angklung Art-Based Intervention to the Elderly in Malaysia: Preliminary Research https://ojs.upsi.edu.my/index.php/JSPS/article/view/9009
Angklung is typically performed in a group setting, primarily for entertainment purposes; however, its potential as a health tool in Malaysia remains largely unexamined. This research aims to determine the advantages of angklung musical instruments for the elderly. There are several objectives, among which is to identify the potential activity of angklung for the elderly; to analyse the effects of activity angklung as an art-based intervention on the elderly. This research employs a qualitative approach, including a literature analysis using secondary sources, online sources, reading materials, and interviews with expert doctors, musicians, and angklung manufacturers. The second part of the primary source involved observation, along with interviews conducted with carers and senior citizens. These interviews occurred before and after the intervention, with a total of 11 residents and 7 carers, including nurses and physiotherapists. Participants were selected through purposive sampling at the Shalis Care Centre in Kelantan on October 31, 2022. The data findings showed that Angklung is an appropriate medium treatment for the elderly in Malaysia. The qualities of angklung include a calm, simple, light, and pleasant sound that aids in the restoration of the elderly's quality of life in terms of physical, psychological, independence, social interactions, and surroundings. Despite its vibrant traditions, the representation of Kelantan’s heritage in visual media is limited, affecting its visibility and tourist engagement. This study aims to explore the effectiveness of digital illustrations in promoting Kelantan’s cultural heritage through event posters, focusing on visual communication elements such as visual, color, typography, technique and layout. A qualitative approach was adopted, with purposive sampling used to select the event posters from recent Kelantan cultural events. Each poster was analyzed using content and visual analysis methods to identify how digital illustrations emphasize key cultural symbols and themes. Findings indicate that certain visual elements, such as vibrant color schemes and cultural motifs, significantly enhance viewer engagement and convey cultural identity effectively. The study concludes that well-designed digital illustrations can play a vital role in enhancing cultural tourism by visually capturing the essence of Kelantan’s heritage. Recommendations include incorporating traditional symbols in modern design styles and applying culturally resonant color schemes to attract both local and international audiences, ultimately supporting tourism growth and cultural preservation.
Roziani Mat Nashir @ Mohd Nasir Mastura Mohd Jarit Mat Redhuan Samsudin Copyright (c) 2024 Roziani Mat Nashir @ Mohd Nasir, Mastura Mohd Jarit, Mat Redhuan Samsudin https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/4.0 2024-12-13 2024-12-13 12 2 33 46 10.37134/kupasseni.vol12.2.4.2024
